Who we are

All About Michigan (allaboutmichigan.org) is operated by the All About Michigan
Foundation, a Michigan nonprofit corporation based in Merrill, Michigan. We publish
photographs, stories, and short videos about Michigan wildlife, Great Lakes places,
farms and fairs, and landmarks like the Mackinac Bridge.

The short version

We collect as little information as we can. We do not sell or rent anyone’s personal
information. We do not ask you to create an account to read or watch anything here.
The main ways information reaches us are: the email you send us if you ask to join our
email list, and the basic technical information every website receives when you visit.
Details follow.

Information we collect

When you visit the site

Like nearly every website, our hosting provider’s servers automatically record basic
technical information when your browser requests a page — for example your IP address,
browser type, the pages you viewed, and the date and time. We use this in aggregate to
keep the site running, spot problems, and understand which stories and photos people
enjoy. We use Google Search Console to see, in aggregate, how people find the site
through Google search. We do not run advertising or visitor-tracking analytics on
this site.

Email signup — “Get Michigan in your inbox”

Some pages invite you to email us to join our mailing list (“Get Michigan in your
inbox”). That signup works through your own email program: you send us an email, and we
add your email address to our list ourselves. The website itself has no signup form and
does not store your address in a website database.

If you join the list, we hold your email address (and your name, if your email shows
one) in our mailbox and use it only to send you our Michigan updates. You can ask us to
remove you at any time by writing to info@allaboutmichigan.org, and every email we send
tells you how to unsubscribe. We honor removal requests promptly.

When you email us directly

If you write to us — with a question, a correction, a photo story, or a sponsorship
inquiry — we keep your message and our reply in our mailbox so we can answer you and
follow up. We use what you send only for that purpose.

Accounts

We do not offer public accounts or registration on this site — registration is turned
off. The only accounts are for the small team that maintains the site.

Cookies

This site does not set advertising or tracking cookies. The only cookies in use are
the standard ones WordPress needs to run:

  • A temporary session cookie that checks whether your browser accepts cookies.
  • Login and display-preference cookies for the team members who log in to maintain
the site. These are not used for visitors.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; the site will
still work for reading and watching.

Links to other sites

Our own photos and videos are hosted on this site, and we do not embed content from
other services. Many pages link out to other sites, such as our Facebook page and our
Linktree page. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which we do not control.
We recommend reviewing them if you have questions about how they handle your
information.

Who we share information with

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information — period.

Information passes only to the services that make the site and our email work:

  • Hosting: the site and our mailbox are hosted by Hostinger, whose servers record
    the visit information described above.
  • Google: aggregate search data is processed by Google through Search Console, as
    described above.

We would disclose information only if required by law, or to protect the site and its
visitors from abuse.

How long we keep information

  • Mailing list: we keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to
    remove it.
  • Emails you send us: we keep correspondence as long as it is useful for answering
    you and running our programs.
  • Server logs: retained by our hosting provider for a limited period for security
    and troubleshooting.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us at any time, by writing to info@allaboutmichigan.org, to:

  • tell you what personal information we hold about you (for most visitors, the answer
    is simply your email address, if you joined the list or wrote to us);
  • correct it;
  • delete it, including removing you from the mailing list.

We will respond to reasonable requests and delete what we are not required to keep for
legal, administrative, or security reasons. You can also control cookies through your
browser, as described above.

Children’s privacy

This site is a general-audience photography and travel site. We do not knowingly
collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent
us personal information (for example, an email address for the mailing list), contact
us at info@allaboutmichigan.org and we will remove it.

Security

We use a reputable hosting provider, keep the site’s software updated, and limit who
can log in to maintain the site. No method of transmission or storage is completely
secure, but we take reasonable care with the small amount of information we hold.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and note the new
effective date at the top. Significant changes will be reflected here before or as they
take effect.
